Recently, Botswana has been hit by historically rare heavy rainfall, triggering severe flooding that has resulted in casualties, housing destruction, and paralyzed infrastructure, posing grave threats to the lives and property of local residents. The disaster has drawn widespread concern. The Chinese Embassy in Botswana has watched closely the situation and actively extend assistance to help affected communities overcome the crisis.
The Chinese Embassy in Botswana promptly communicated with the Botswana government to identify urgently needed supplies and rescue requirements. On February 24, the Chinese Embassy in Botswana donated a batch of emergency relief materials to the Ministry for State President to support disaster response efforts.
As of February 25, several Chinese enterprises, including Huawei Botswana, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Zhong Gan Engineering & Construction (Pty)Ltd, and China Harbour Engineering Company, as well as organizations such as the Botswana Chinese Enterprise Association, Botswana-China Friendship Association, and Charity Association Of Chinese In Botswana, have actively responded by participating in rescue operations through river dredging, monetary donations, and material contributions. Additionally, multiple enterprises and individuals are actively fundraising and mobilizing resources to provide further support for affected populations.
