As the COVID-19 pandemic is still raging, children are one of the groups that needs more attention and care from the whole society. Over the years, the Chinese Embassy, together with the Chinese communities in Botswana, has supported Botswana children's growth and education in various ways and made multiple donations to local child care organizations such as the SOS Children's Village, which vividly showcases the close bond between China and Botswana. Congratulating on the fourth anniversary of the establishment of the Chinese Charity Care Center, Ambassador Wang spoke highly of the charity work by the Chinese communities in Botswana, and said that the Embassy will continue to support the SOS Children's Village to become a warm home for disadvantaged children to grow up healthily and happily. Ambassador Wang also briefed the guests on China's assistance to Botswana in the fight against COVID-19.

Minister Segokgo thanked the Chinese side on behalf of the Botswana side for the generous donation and said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Botswana and China, the bilateral ties have achieved significant development on the basis of profound traditional friendship. Bilateral cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, healthcare and education has yielded remarkable results. In particular, China's recent donation of Sinovac vaccines has provided strong support for Botswana’s fight against COVID-19 as well as economy recovery. The Botswana side looks forward to further deepening practical cooperation with China to achieve win-win outcomes. Minister Segokgo also commended the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese people and the Chinese companies in Botswana for supporting local development.

During the event, the Chinese Embassy donated face masks to the SOS Children's Village in support of its COVID-19 response, and 50 radio/CD players to the Ministry of Basic Education to improve access to education programs for children in remote villages.
