On April 24, 2025, Ambassador Fan Yong met with Mayor of Gaborone, His Worship Oarabile Motlaleng.

Ambassador Fan congratulated His Worship Oarabile Motlaleng on his election as the Mayor of Gaborone, saying that China is willing to strengthen the bilateral friendly relations, committed to expanding exchanges and visits in areas such as urban construction and cultural development, and further promote the mutual understanding of the people between China and Gaborone.

His Worship Oarabile Motlaleng thanked Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Gaborone for the long-term assistance and support for the development of Gaborone. He looks forward to further deepening bilateral cooperation with China, and therefore strengthening the social foundation for the friendship between Botswana and China.
