On 10 February 2026, Ambassador Fan Yong and his wife Counselor Cui Yin attended the Spring Festival Reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy and delivered a speech. More than 300 people, including Hon. Mr. Moeti Mohwasa, Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Hon. MPs and Botswana friends, representatives from Chinese communities and enterprises participated in the event.

Ambassador Fan Yong extended his sincere Spring Festival greetings to the distinguished guests and expressed heartfelt appreciation to all sectors in Botswana for their continued attention to and support for the development of China-Botswana relations. He noted that 2026 marks the launch of China's "15th Five-Year Plan" and coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Africa. It is a pivotal year for the China-Botswana Strategic Partnership to embark on a new journey and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. Guided by the leadership of the two Heads of State, China stands ready to enhance practical cooperation with Botswana across various fields, so as to promote the China-Botswana Strategic Partnership to new heights.

Hon. Minister Mohwasa (Acting Minister of International Relations) spoke highly of the development of bilateral relations and expressed Botswana's willingness to further deepen exchanges and cooperation with China across various fields.
