On 24 August, Khoemacau Copper Mining (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of MMG Limited under China Minmetals Corporation, signed a cooperation agreement on the Centre of Mining Excellence project with the Ministry of Higher Education of Botswana in Gaborone. Chairman of China Minmetals Chen Dexin, who was visiting Botswana, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Fan Yong, Minister of Higher Education Prince Maele, Minister of International Relations Phenyo Butale, Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Kenewendo, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Moeti Mokware, Acting Minister of Basic Education Justin Hunyepa, and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education Otlotleng Bogatsu witnessed the signing ceremony.

The Centre of Mining Excellence will be established at Maun Technical College to provide modern equipment and professional training, focusing on cultivating local talent in underground and mechanised mining. As an innovative model integrating industry with education between China and Botswana, this project will help Batswana youth acquire practical skills, enhance employability, facilitate the transformation of natural resources into development advantages, and provide solid talent support for Botswana's long-term socioeconomic progress.
