On January 8, Ms. Tao Lili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, met with Mr. Wang Zhizhou, the newly appointed Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).

  Ms. Tao congratulated Mr. Wang on assuming his new post and spoke highly of the important role played by the Confucius Institute in promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Botswana. She expressed the hope that the Confucius Institute would continuously improve the quality of Chinese language teaching and actively organize more cultural activities during the 2026 China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. The Chinese Embassy is willing to work with the Confucius Institute to jointly promote fine traditional Chinese culture and enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

  Mr. Wang thanked the Embassy for its support to the Confucius Institute at BIUST. He looks forward to continuously improving the Confucius Institute’s development, and faithfully fulfilling its mission.

  The Confucius Institute at BIUST was established in 2023 and is jointly founded by BIUST and Yanshan University.
