On March 27, Ambassador Fan Yong and his wife Counselor Cui Yin attended the 19th Botswana Final of the “Chinese Bridge” Competition for Secondary School Students. Dr. Morena Rankopo, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Prof. Maria Nnyepi, Deputy Vice Chancellor of UB, Dr. Frederick Jeffress Ramsay, Principal of Livingstone Kolobeng College, Prof. Pu Durong, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute of UB participated in the event.

Ambassador Fan noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as the “China-Africa Year of People-to-people Exchanges”. The theme of this year’s competition is “Fly high with Chinese”, aiming to encourage more young people in Botswana to take Chinese as their wings to explore Chinese culture, build sincere friendships with Chinese people, and carry forward this bond into the future.

Students from Livingstone Kolobeng College, Legae Academy, and other schools participated in the competition. The event is hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Botswana and organized by the Confucius Institute at UB.
