On April 16, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Botswana hosted the first “Ambassador Dialogue” event of the year, titled “China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Botswana’s Opportunities”. Approximately 80 people attended this event, including representatives from the Chinese Studies Programme and UniPods of the University of Botswana, Botswana youth organizations, the Chinese community, Chinese enterprises, media from both countries.

Ambassador Fan briefed participants on the guiding principles of China’s “Two Sessions” and the 15th Five-Year Plan. He noted that the Plan will inject greater certainty into the world and create new opportunities for all countries, including Botswana. He encouraged Botswana youth to devote themselves to China–Botswana friendship and to becoming active participants in the development of bilateral relations.

Representatives of faculty and students from the University of Botswana spoke highly of China’s achievements in economic and social development and the 15th Five-Year Plan. They expressed willingness to learn from China’s development experience, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, and promote bilateral relations.

Ambassador Fan Yong had cordial exchanges with the participating youth and answered questions on topics including artificial intelligence and the situation in the Middle East. The event was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
