On July 31, Ambassador Fan Yong met with Mayor of Francistown His Worship Hon. Gaone Majere. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening local cooperation between China and Botswana.

  Ambassador Fan said that local cooperation plays a significant role in China-Botswana relations. Francistown is a major trading hub and an important transportation center in Botswana. The Chinese Embassy is willing to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to further play a bridging role, encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Francistown and promote Chinese communities in Francistown to play an active role in giving back to the community and other areas.

  Mayor Majere thanked the Chinese communities, Chinese enterprises, and the Chinese medical team in Botswana for their important contributions to the economic and social development of Francistown over the years. In the future, Francistown hopes to establish sister city relations with more Chinese cities and further expand practical cooperation with China in areas such as trade and investment, talent training, education, and medical and health care.
