During President Masisi’s visit to China in 2018, President Xi Jinping and President Masisi had an in-depth exchange of views and agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a new high, charting the course for the development of China-Botswana relations and friendship. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, China and Botswana have been helping each other as the two countries jointly combat the virus, demonstrating the profound brotherhood between the two sides. Earlier this year, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi successfully visited Botswana, which provided new opportunities for the two countries to deepen the friendly and cooperative relations. Honored to be the Chinese ambassador to Botswana, Ambassador Wang said he stands ready to work with Minister Kappe and people from all sectors to implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, further strengthen the anti-pandemic cooperation, assist Botswana with its economic recovery, and further promote the bilateral relations within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

On behalf of the Botswana Government, Minister Kwape warmly welcomed Ambassador Wang to his new post and asked Ambassador Wang to convey his cordial greetings to Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Minister Kwape said that Botswana and China have deep traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation in various fields. In the face of the pandemic, China, a close friend and sincere partner of Botswana, has timely provided Botswana with multiple batches of technical and material assistance. Botswana attaches great importance to the development of China-Botswana relations and is willing to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China to achieve new and greater development of the relations between the two countries. The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation of Botswana will facilitate and support Ambassador Wang to perform his duties. With the joint efforts of the two sides, the friendship between the two peoples will be stronger and the bilateral practical cooperation will be more fruitful.
