On March 16, 2021, Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li held a video political consultation with Ethiopian State Minister of Foreign Affairs Redwan Hussien.

Deng Li said that China and Ethiopia are partners of comprehensive strategic cooperation. In recent years, the two countries have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and solid political mutual trust, firmly supported each other on issues of central concerns, and achieved fruitful results of practical cooperation. After the COVID-19 outbreak, the two sides undertook effective anti-pandemic cooperation, setting a good example of cooperation against COVID-19 between China and African countries. China is willing to work with Ethiopia to enhance communication, collaboration and cooperation, promote bilateral relations, push forward the relationship between China and African countries, and safeguard common interests of developing countries on multilateral occasions.

Redwan Hussien said that China is an important partner of Ethiopia. The two countries have maintained close exchanges in political, economic, trade, cultural and other fields. Ethiopia thanks China for its staunch opposition against the interference in Ethiopia's internal affairs by external forces, and its invaluable support in infrastructure construction, economic and trade investment, and technical cooperation. Ethiopia will continue to support China in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote further progress of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Tigray Region, Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and territorial dispute between Ethiopia and Sudan.
