Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Visits South Sudan

From December 18 to 19, 2016, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu visited South Sudan, during which she met with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Alor Kuol of South Sudan respectively and mainly discussed the works of promoting peace and dialogues regarding the situation in South Sudan.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that since the establishment of China-South Sudan diplomatic relations over 5 years ago, both countries have constantly enhanced political mutual trust and witnessed sound development of cooperation in various fields. Recently, there are some positive signs in the South Sudan situation. It is hoped that all parties of South Sudan can resolve disputes through dialogues and negotiations, effectively implement the peace agreement, jointly promote inclusive dialogues and peace process and push for peace, stability and development in South Sudan at an early date.

The South Sudanese side expressed that South Sudan and China enjoy friendly relations. Highly appreciating China's constructive role in the peace process of South Sudan, the South Sudanese government hopes to further deepen cooperation in infrastructure, energy and other fields and stands ready to maintain communication and coordination with China to jointly push forward the peace process in South Sudan.

During the visit, Special Representative Xu Jinghu also met with Acting Head of United Nations Mission in South Sudan Moustapha Soumaré, and gave an interview to Chinese and foreign media. H.E. He Xiangdong, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, attended above events.
